Stall Revival Project
We are in the process of adding sand to the stalls which, after nearly 24 years of use have become uneven and very low. We are working our way through the barn systematically, although the system may not be readily apparent. We have a list of high-priority stalls (those in the most need), and we are working from the West end of the barn to East end, to make sand delivery and access easier.
If you would like Foxfire to address issues with your stall’s flooring, or would like to have sand added immediately, we ask that you contribute $20 toward a load of sand (which is about $90 per load). And of course, you are welcome to come help shovel and pack sand if you really want it done faster! We are purchasing sand as quickly as we can afford it and rebedding stalls as quickly as our bodies can recover. (A big THANK YOU to Kelly for providing most of the muscle for this project so far...)
Confessions of a Repel-X-Lover
I admit it.. I’ve always loved Repel-X. Since I was a little girl, the distinctive scent of that fly spray has transported me to the barn, if only in my imagination. It smells slightly of Pine Sol, so when I mopped floors, even during my sabbatical from horses and riding, I would instantly think of the barn, and all my favorite horses.
So, whenever someone asks me what the best fly spray is, I always say firmly, “Repel-X”.
Okay, so maybe I was slightly blinded by my nostalgia. It was pointed out to me recently that, although my all-time favorite fly spray does a good job of knocking down flies quickly, it just doesn’t last as long as some of the newer products, such as Endure.
Apparently, Endure will last about 2 days in most cases, whereas Repel-X only lasts a few hours. I know it’s immature of me, but I have to point out that Endure claims to last up to 14 days, to which I simply snicker and think, “oh yeah? I guess you didn’t do your product testing in the Gulf Coast!” Regardless, I must tip my hat to the obvious winner... Endure, you are now officially recommend by me, but I’m keeping my own bottle of Repel-X around, for old time’s sake.

The gentle gray mare
Stumbles softly to her end
Chancey calls goodbye
Rest in peace, sweet Lady.
So Long, Sarah Davidson!
Our long-time friend, Sarah Davidson, is going away to college on the 19th of this month. Sarah has been a part of our Foxfire family for more years than I can remember, and she will be dearly missed. We will be having a surprise (assuming she doesn’t read this newsletter first! shh.. don’t tell her!) going-away party for her this Sunday around 3:00. Call Kelly or Jennifer for details. FYI: There will be cake!
Send us your E-mail!
We would really appreciate it if each of our boarders would send us an e-mail through the “Contact Us” link on the website, so we can store it and send you updates and information electronically. Just type your full name in the Subject line of the email and leave the body of the e-mail blank. Thanks. We look forward to visiting your Inbox.
