March, 2010 Newsletter

What a wet winter we had! Now that spring is arriving and the grass is showing that it did not drown (it was touch and go for a while), we are looking for some sunny days to replenish ourselves and finishing refurbishing the stalls and grounds.

We want to welcome all our new boarders: Deborah Sutherland and "Tripp", Amy Jones and "Raven", Joanna Brooks and "Diesel", Jill Haddad and "Skeeter", Bernadette Ellis and "Looky". Also, congratulations to new owners: Erika Sorsby - "Kid's" new mama, Jonathan Jennings - "Sleipnir's" new daddy, and Julie Vaughan - "Casper's" new sponsor.

February 28th through March 2nd were exciting days around here. The Lipizzaners came to visit. Thirteen stallions, all gentlemen, rested here while we looked, oohed and aahed (maybe drooled a little). Of course, they were here for a little rest stop before continuing on their tour. Hopefully we let them do that. They were very tolerant of our guided "look don't touch" tours through the barn.

A special thanks goes out to all the wonderful volunteers who came to help us with a last minute spruce up to make the Lipizzaners' stay more enjoyable. You all were great! Extra special thanks go to Marisa, Erika Sorsby and Glen Luke whose herculean efforts moving sand, bedding and concrete helped Kelly Vaughan get the guests' stalls ready for them. Bet they don't do that at the Hilton. With volunteers and trainers like this, who could ask for a better place to be! We are truly lucky.

Mark your calendars. April 17, 2010. Birthday party - pot luck 12 noon. For everyone who has fallen in love with "Amie" and/or "Chango". Amie is celebrating her 31st birthday and Chango will be 30. These two wonderful horses have taught many beginners over the years at Foxfire and we want to honor them with a party.

Boarders, due to drastic increases in hay and grain prices over the past year, we're forced to raise our full board to $425 effective May 1st, 2010.
